Description

The General Superintendent - Earthworks, sewers and aqueducts plays an essential role in the management and supervision of civil engineering and infrastructure projects such as highways, bridges, road interchanges, concrete and asphalt pavements. He is responsible for supervising and coordinating all activities on site, ensuring that work is completed safely, on time and to quality and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  •  Plan, organize, coordinate and supervise work related to earthworks, sewers and waterworks on the site, including electrical work, sidewalk, granular foundation and paving, in collaboration with project managers.
  •  Plan operational needs (labor and equipment).
  •  Participate in the development of project schedules.
  •  Supervise and direct work done in-house, such as earthworks, drainage, granular foundations and adjustment of services.
  •  Supervise the workforce.
  •  Plan the transportation needs of materials for the site.
  •  Ensure compliance with plans, technical specifications and quality standards in the execution of work.
  •  Coordinate the human, material and material resources necessary to carry out the work.
  •  Analyze and improve work methods according to the needs of the site.
  •  Collaborate with engineering and design teams to interpret plans and technical drawings and ensure their implementation in the field.
  •  Supervise subcontractors and suppliers to ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  •  Carry out regular inspections on site to ensure compliance with safety, quality and environmental standards.
  •  Manage problems and challenges encountered on site, proposing effective solutions and taking corrective action when necessary.
  •  Communicate regularly with team members, subcontractors, suppliers and stakeholders to ensure effective coordination of work.
  •  Maintain detailed records of site activities, including progress reports, safety reports and quantity records.
  •  Participate in site meetings, safety reviews and performance evaluations to ensure proactive management and continuous process improvement.
  •  Promote and provide leadership in health and safety.
  •  Analyze, develop and promote safe work methods.
  •  Ensure the application of established programs (investigation and analysis of accidents, observations, corrective actions, preventive inspections, etc.).
  •  Participate in the various programs put in place and respect the procedures, laws and regulations in force when applicable.

Requirements

  •  Significant experience in supervising road infrastructure work, more specifically in excavation, earthworks and installation of sewer and water pipes, preferably in a superintendent role or a similar position.
  •  In-depth knowledge of construction techniques, earthworks methods, sewer and aqueduct systems, as well as current standards and regulations.
  •  Leadership skills and demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team in the field.
  •  Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with team members, subcontractors, suppliers and external stakeholders.
  •  Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  •  Attention to detail, organizational skills and commitment to safety and quality of work.
  •  Valid driver's license and availability to travel to different job sites depending on business needs.
  •  Deadline management skills.
  •  Skills in managing changing priorities.
  •  Knowledge of concrete road construction, an asset.
