Description
The Labor Relations Advisor is responsible for supporting the company in managing labor relations, ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and collective agreements applicable to the construction sector. The position acts as a labor relations expert and plays a key role in maintaining harmonious relationships between employees, unions, and management. This role requires in-depth knowledge of the laws and agreements governing the construction industry in the province, as well as a strong sense of diplomacy and conflict resolution skills.
Responsibilities
• Ensure harmonious relations between employees and management by facilitating dialogue, intervening in conflicts, and ensuring proper application of collective agreements.
• Advise managers and operational teams on labor relations issues, providing support and proactive solutions.
• Participate in collective bargaining negotiations and ensure compliance with agreements in effect in the construction industry.
• Develop conflict prevention and resolution strategies, effectively managing grievances and complaints in accordance with company policies.
• Train managers and employees on rules, procedures, and best practices in labor relations.
• Ensure that all company practices comply with applicable labor laws and regulations.
• Represent the company in various committees or organizations related to labor relations and workplace safety.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Relations, Labor Law, Human Resources, or a related field.
• Experience in labor relations, ideally in the construction sector or in a unionized environment (asset).
• In-depth knowledge of labor laws and regulations, particularly the Labor Code and collective agreements.
• Strong ability to communicate with various stakeholders (employees, managers, union representatives) and maintain a respectful and collaborative environment.
• Ability to solve complex problems and handle tense situations diplomatically.
• Ability to strategically and effectively represent the company during negotiations with union representatives.
• Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously and work independently.
• Bilingualism (French and English): Could be an asset for interacting with stakeholders and drafting formal documents, depending on the province.
