Description

The Buyer (Purchaser) in the construction industry is responsible for managing the process of supplying materials, equipment and services necessary to carry out construction projects within a company. This professional plays a crucial role in optimizing costs, product quality and meeting project needs, while respecting deadlines and the specific requirements of each site.

Responsibilities

    Identify procurement requirements for each construction project, in collaboration with project management teams, engineers and other stakeholders involved.
    Evaluate potential suppliers and negotiate purchasing terms, including pricing, delivery times, payment terms and contract terms.
    Place orders with selected suppliers, ensuring technical specifications and quality requirements are met.
    Monitor the status of stock and material inventories on job sites, identifying replenishment needs and planning orders accordingly.
    Collaborate with project teams to resolve supply-related issues, such as delivery delays, defective products or specification changes.
    Evaluate supplier performance in terms of quality, cost and time, and recommend improvement measures if necessary.
    Monitor building materials and equipment market trends, seeking opportunities for cost optimization and quality improvement.
    Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and procedures, as well as applicable purchasing and contract management regulations.
    Maintain professional relationships with suppliers, promoting open and transparent communication throughout the procurement process.
    Contribute to the development of long-term procurement strategies, identifying opportunities to optimize processes and improve operational efficiencies.

Requirements

    Degree in business administration, operations management, engineering or a related field.
    Professional experience in a purchasing role, preferably in construction or engineering, an asset.
    Knowledge of procurement processes, including supplier selection, contract negotiation and inventory management.
    Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic and constantly changing environment.
    Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with suppliers and business partners.
    Proficiency in IT tools and purchasing management software, such as ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems or inventory management software.
    Strong sense of organization, planning and time management, with particular attention to detail and accuracy.
    Ability to work independently and as part of a team, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing within the organization.
    Knowledge of regulations and standards for purchasing and contract management in the construction industry, an asset.
