Description
The Civil Engineering Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising excavation and civil engineering projects. This professional plays a critical role in managing all phases of projects, from initial planning through completion, ensuring work is completed on time, on budget and in accordance with quality standards and security.
Responsibilities
• Develop detailed plans for each phase of the project, including establishing timelines, allocating resources and allocating budgets.
• Determine with the client and stakeholders the controls specific to the project to ensure the quality of execution and avoid non-compliance which could delay the work.
• Participate in all feasibility analyzes and develop appropriate recommendations.
• Define, negotiate, award and administer contracts and/or purchase orders entrusted to all specialized contractors, subcontractors, craftsmen, suppliers and others if applicable upon approval of the project director.
• Draft contracts for consultants, specialists and subcontractors if applicable.
• Lead and/or attend meetings of all project-related committees.
• Coordinate site activities, including excavation, site preparation, construction of foundations and structures, working closely with foremen, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Supervise work on site to ensure it is carried out in accordance with plans, specifications and established safety standards, carrying out regular inspections and resolving problems encountered.
• Manage the human, material and financial resources assigned to the project, ensuring their optimal use and cost control.
• Ensure clear and effective communication with all project stakeholders, including clients, team members, subcontractors and regulatory authorities.
• Monitor work progress against planned timelines and budgets, identifying and resolving potential delays or issues.
• Manage riders, amendments, change orders and project unforeseen events, assessing their impact on the schedule and budget and proposing appropriate solutions.
• Maintain accurate records of all project activities, including meetings, progress reports, problems encountered and solutions provided, and administrative documents such as contracts and authorizations.
Requirements
• Degree in civil engineering or a related field.
• Relevant professional experience in the field of excavation and civil engineering, preferably as a project manager.
• In-depth knowledge of construction techniques, materials and safety standards in the field of civil engineering.
• Project management skills, including planning, organizing and controlling.
• Ability to work independently and in a team, with good communication and leadership skills.
• Mastery of IT tools and project management software.
• Valid driver's license and availability to travel to job sites as needed.
• Attention to detail, ability to problem solve and make informed decisions in complex situations.
