Description
The Payroll Technician is responsible for efficiently and accurately managing the payroll process for employees of a construction company. This role involves collecting, entering and processing employee compensation data, as well as ensuring compliance with payroll regulations.
Responsibilities
• Ensure the application of collective agreements, corporate and government rules related to payroll.
• Prepare and issue government remittances.
• Prepare and verify end-of-year documents, in collaboration with financial controllers.
• Respond to employee requests related to payroll and benefits.
• Open complaint files and monitor work accident files in collaboration with prevention mutuals.
• Collect and enter working time information, leave, absences and other data relevant to payroll.
• Calculate wages, overtime, bonuses and benefits in compliance with internal policies and labor laws.
• Process payroll deductions such as taxes, social security contributions, insurance, pension plans, etc.
• Prepare and distribute pay statements and salary slips to employees.
• Answer employees' questions regarding their compensation and benefits.
• Manage direct deposits and check payments for employees.
• Prepare and submit tax returns and payroll-related government reports.
• Ensure compliance with government payroll regulations, including labor laws, industry standards and tax obligations.
• Collaborate with human resources and finance departments to resolve payroll issues and maintain efficient processes.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee payroll information.
Requirements
• Degree in accounting, or a related field.
• Experience in the payroll field, preferably in the construction sector, an asset.
• In-depth knowledge of payroll software, such as Maestro, Avantage, ADP, Payworks, etc.
• Good knowledge of payroll processing and benefits.
• Good command of the Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Mastery of payroll laws and regulations in Quebec.
• Ability to work accurately and meet deadlines.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong sense of confidentiality and professional ethics.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Attention to detail and ability to resolve problems effectively.
