Description

The Driller Apprentice ensures the operations of drilling activities in quarries, construction sites and mines, under the responsibility of the Driller in charge. He uses a variety of drilling equipment to drill holes into the ground following precise plans and specifications.

Responsibilities

    Prepare and configure drilling equipment, including drills and accessories.
    Read and interpret drill plans to determine the location and depth of drill holes.
    Monitor and adjust drilling parameters, such as rotation speed, pressure and water supply, to optimize performance.
    Operate drills safely and efficiently, following established procedures and safety standards.
    Continuously monitor ground conditions and adjust drilling techniques accordingly.
    Ensure that drilling equipment is maintained and serviced regularly to ensure proper operation.
    Collaborate with the blasting team to prepare blasting areas and load explosives into drill holes.
    Accurately document drilling activities, including hole depths, rock types encountered, and ground conditions.
    Comply with safety standards and environmental regulations throughout the drilling process.
    Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure adequate coordination of work.

Requirements

    Degree in drilling and blasting, or in diamond drilling, or relevant experience, an asset.
    Experience in mechanics and hydraulics, an asset for some companies.
    Valid competency certificate, an asset.
    General explosives permit, an asset for some companies.
    Drilling experience, preferably in quarries, construction sites or mines, an asset.
    Working knowledge of drilling equipment and drilling techniques.
    Ability to read and interpret drilling plans and diagrams.
    Safety skills and compliance with job site safety procedures.
    Ability to work effectively under pressure and in demanding environments.
    Ability to work independently and in a team.
    Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with team members and supervisors.
    Good physical condition to work in outdoor and sometimes difficult environments.
