Description
The Energy Efficiency Engineer plays a crucial role in optimizing the mechanical systems of buildings in order to reduce energy consumption and improve their environmental performance. This professional works on maintenance, optimization and construction projects to design, implement and supervise solutions aimed at maximizing the energy efficiency of buildings.
Responsibilities
• Conduct energy audits of buildings to assess their current performance and identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency.
• Design and deliver energy efficiency solutions, such as installing more efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, optimizing lighting, installing energy management systems , etc.
• Develop plans and technical specifications for the implementation of energy efficiency measures, taking into account project requirements, industry standards and applicable regulations.
• Oversee the installation and commissioning of energy efficiency equipment and systems, ensuring they are installed to specifications and operating optimally.
• Ensure the smooth running and weekly monitoring of projects, whether for project management, customer support, resources, or for longitudinal monitoring of energy efficiency gains.
• Ensure that objectives are achieved, deliverables are monitored, and deadlines and project budgets/margins are respected;
• Ensure all projects are properly closed, any installation deficiency lists are taken care of, in order for the client to grant final acceptance.
• Work with project managers and engineers in the execution of their mandates, so that they can optimize results and the use of labor, materials and equipment.
• Collaborate with design and construction teams to integrate energy efficiency principles from the building design phase.
• Perform energy simulations and life cycle analyzes to evaluate the energy performance of proposed systems and recommend the best options.
• Provide technical support to maintenance teams to optimize the performance of existing mechanical systems and resolve energy efficiency issues.
• Monitor and evaluate the energy performance of buildings after implementing energy efficiency measures, by carrying out measurements and analyzing consumption data.
• Remain informed of trends and technological advances in the field of energy efficiency and recommend continuous improvements to practices and systems.
Requirements
• University degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or a related field.
• Relevant experience in energy efficiency, HVAC system design, energy management or similar role.
• In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, HVAC systems, energy efficiency technologies and energy regulations.
• Advanced data analysis and energy modeling skills, including the use of specialized software such as EnergyPlus, eQuest, etc.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, including planning, coordination and resource management.
• Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with customers, team members and external stakeholders.
• Professional certification in energy efficiency (e.g. CEM, CMVP, etc.) an asset.
• Attention to detail, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and commitment to continuous improvement.
