Description
The Metal Structure Welder is responsible for carrying out welds on various metal elements as part of the construction of structures such as buildings, bridges, walkways and other structures. This role is essential to guarantee the strength and safety of metal structures in construction projects.
Responsibilities
• Read plans and technical specifications to determine appropriate welding procedures.
• Prepare surfaces to be welded by cleaning, visually inspecting, grinding or brushing metal parts.
• Select and adjust welding equipment based on metal type, thickness and type of joint.
• Perform high quality welds according to current standards and construction codes.
• Weld all assembled and pre-assembled parts in the different workshops, or on site, regardless of the welding procedure and process.
• Visually inspect welds for defects and correct them if necessary.
• Follow safety standards by wearing appropriate protective equipment and handling materials safely.
• Work collaboratively with other members of the construction team to assemble and install metal structures.
• Carry out repairs or modifications to existing metal structures according to project needs.
Requirements
• Degree in welding assembly, or any other current or completed training relevant to the field of welding.
• Welding certification or equivalent experience in the field, an asset.
• Knowledge of SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, or other welding techniques, an asset.
• Ability to carry out welds in all positions.
• Knowledge of welding symbols and procedures.
• Mastery of semi-automatic welding machine, may be an asset.
• Ability to read and interpret technical plans and diagrams.
• Experience in the safe use of welding equipment and related tools.
• Attention to detail and manual skill to make precise welds.
• Ability to work effectively in a team while being independent when necessary.
• Compliance with safety and security standards on construction sites.
• Good physical condition to work in sometimes cramped environments or at height.
