Description
The Tile Setter Apprentice practices his profession in residential, commercial, industrial and institutional projects. Tilers cut and install marble, granite, slate, ceramic tiles, etc. Generally, he prepares the surfaces, cuts and installs marble, granite, terrazzo, slate, ceramic tiles or any other similar or substitute material. He can also polish by hand or machine any surface made of granite, marble or another material of the same nature.
Responsibilities
• Prepare, measure and mark out the surfaces to be covered.
• Mix, apply and spread mortar, cement, putty, glue or other adhesive materials using trowels.
• Place the tiles in place and, using pressure, seat them securely in the bed of adhesive material.
• Align and re-level the tiles.
• Cut and fit tiles around obstacles or openings using mechanical or manual cutting tools.
• Pack grout into the joints between tiles and remove excess grout.
• Replace broken or damaged tiles.
• Install and arrange mosaic tiles to create decorative patterns on walls and floors.
• Build underlayments and install anchor bolts, pins and brackets.
• Cut, polish and bond marble or granite tiles.
• Lay tile borders.
• Remove the previous coating.
• Perform any other related task.
Requirements
• Degree and/or experience in tiling, an asset.
• Demonstrate impeccable rigor and attention to detail.
• Good physical and mental condition.
• Good work ethic and team spirit.
• Good capacity for initiative and autonomy.
• Ability to communicate well.
• Concern for and compliance with safety standards.
