Description
The Window and Door Installer is responsible for installing, adjusting, and finishing all types of openings (exterior doors, interior doors, windows, sliding glass doors) on residential, commercial, or institutional sites. Under the supervision of the foreman and team leader, they ensure the watertightness, insulation, and proper operation of all installed products while adhering to plans, building codes, and safety requirements. This role demands excellent carpentry skills, a keen eye for detail, and a high level of workmanship.
Responsibilities
• Read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical data sheets to determine the types and dimensions of frames and operable units.
• Prepare the site: layout anchor points, verify wall or existing frame flatness and plumb.
• Handle, move, and position windows and doors according to manufacturer standards and site tolerances.
• Shim, level, and fasten frames using screws, brackets, and sealants, ensuring water- and air-tight seals.
• Install operable components (panes, sashes, sliders), adjust hinges, hardware, and locking systems for optimal performance.
• Apply caulking, weatherstripping, and other sealing accessories to meet thermal and acoustic insulation requirements.
• Inspect installation quality: flatness, operation, aesthetics, and absence of pinch or bind points.
• Perform finish work: install trim, mouldings, paint, or treat wood as required.
• Clean and secure the site at the end of each phase or workday.
• Coordinate with other trades (interior carpenters, electricians, roofers) to manage interfaces and maintain the overall project schedule.
Requirements
• Training in door and window installation, carpentry, or a related trade (an asset).
• Hands‑on experience installing doors and windows, preferably in residential and commercial settings (an asset).
• Knowledge of layout techniques, frame adjustment, and sealing methods (caulking, weatherstripping).
• Proficiency with hand and power tools: drill/driver, level, laser measure, circular saw, caulking gun.
• Ability to read and adhere to plans, specifications, and strict dimensional tolerances.
• Good balance and physical fitness to handle heavy loads at height or in confined spaces.
• Meticulousness, attention to detail, and commitment to high‑quality finishes.
• Ability to work independently, stay organized, and juggle multiple tasks.
• Strong communication skills and team spirit to coordinate deliveries, client appointments, and on‑site work.
• Familiarity with standards for insulation, sealing, and on‑site safety.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel frequently between job sites.
