Description
The Excavator Operator plays an essential role in excavation and civil engineering projects by using excavators to dig, move and manipulate materials on construction sites. This professional is responsible for operating the mechanical excavator safely and efficiently, following the plans and instructions given by the foreman or project manager.
Responsibilities
• Use the mechanical excavator to dig trenches, carry out grading and excavation work, move materials, load trucks and carry out other excavation tasks as required by the site.
• Follow plans and technical specifications to locate areas to be excavated and ensure work is completed accurately and to standards.
• Follow site safety procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and ensuring the work area is secure.
• Carry out regular checks and pre-use inspections of machinery to ensure it is operating correctly.
• Ensure the good condition of the equipment at all times and report repairs to be made or any other anomalies to the foreman.
• Communicate with other team members on site to coordinate activities and ensure work is completed efficiently and safely.
• Ensure that excavation operations are carried out in a manner that minimizes environmental impacts and complies with all applicable environmental regulations.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, hours worked and materials moved for billing and documentation.
Requirements
• Degree in driving construction equipment, an asset.
• Certification or professional training in heavy machinery operation, an asset.
• Relevant professional experience as an excavator operator, preferably in the field of excavation and civil engineering, an asset.
• Thorough knowledge of excavator operating techniques, including control manipulation and basic maintenance.
• Ability to work independently and in a team, with good communication skills.
• Good physical condition and ability to work in varied and sometimes difficult conditions.
• Attention to detail and compliance with safety standards on the construction site.
• Valid driver's license and availability to travel to job sites as needed.
• Good manual dexterity.
