Description

The role of a Health and Safety Prevention Officer (OHS) at work on construction sites is crucial to guarantee worker safety and compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  •  Coordinate and supervise all activities of the general contractor relating to the health and safety of a construction site.
  •  Control the wearing of personal protective equipment and other obligations of workers in terms of occupational health and safety.
  •  Administer site reception to new workers and subcontractors in terms of Health and Safety.
  •  Responsible for site compliance with the prevention program in force.
  •  Advise and inform all site personnel on task-specific measures and risks.
  •  Issue recommendations related to the health and safety of the construction site.
  •  Inspect workplaces daily and ensure that employees comply with current health and safety standards.
  •  Attend the safety break.
  •  Complete daily observation reports.
  •  Lead the site committee.
  •  Participate in investigations following a work accident.
  •  Perform all other related tasks relating to occupational health and safety.

Requirements

  •  Possess professional diploma, an asset.
  •  Have a permit / certificate issued by the competent and recognized authorities.
  •  Knowledge of the construction field.
  •  Experience in a similar position, an asset.
  •  Know the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and the safety code for construction work.
  •  Be independent.
  •  Have a customer-focused approach.
  •  Interpersonal skills.
  •  Good adaptation capacity.
  •  Skilled in conflict resolution.
  •  Skills to work in a team.
