Are you a seasoned leader in commercial and institutional construction, ready to guide multi‑million‑dollar initiatives from concept through completion? As Senior Project Manager, you’ll be responsible for full‑cycle delivery of projects exceeding $200 million, ensuring they meet stringent safety, quality, budget and schedule targets. Based in Calgary (with travel to active sites), you’ll report to the Director of Operations and collaborate closely with estimating, field teams and clients to drive excellence at every stage.
Key Responsibilities
1. Opportunity & Pre‑Construction
• Lead proposal development and client presentations in partnership with Marketing and Estimating teams
• Facilitate project kick‑off meetings to align internal stakeholders on scope, contracts and objectivesDevelop comprehensive project management plans (Safety, Quality, Environmental)
• Prepare and issue contracts and subcontracts, defining clear scopes of work
• Build and obtain approval for detailed schedules using MS Project or Primavera P6, including critical‑path logic
• Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety and environmental regulations
2. Construction Management
• Oversee day‑to‑day execution, monitoring work schedules, “look‑ahead” forecasts and site coordination
• Review shop drawings, RFIs and change orders before client submission
• Manage financial performance: revenue forecasting, billing cycles and payment approvals
• Chair biweekly status meetings with clients or owner representatives, capturing actions, risks and minutes
• Maintain document control, inspection/testing records and quality control procedures
• Mentor project coordinators and field supervisors, reinforcing best practices and process adherence
3. Post‑Construction & Close‑Out
• Administer warranty and deficiency resolution during the post‑completion phase
• Ensure final contractual and financial close‑out, including release of bonds, licenses and certificates
Qualifications & Experience
• Post‑secondary diploma or degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 10+ years of progressive leadership in heavy civil, commercial or institutional construction, including projects over $200 million
• Proven success in bid management, JV partnerships and securing major contracts
• Expert user of MS Project, Primavera P6, SAP (or similar ERP), Bluebeam and document management systems
• Exceptional financial acumen: cost control, forecasting and KPI tracking
• Strong interpersonal skills: negotiation, presentation and relationship‑building with clients, stakeholders and teams
Additional Requirements
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean 3‑year abstract
• Ability to lift up to 25 kg (55 lb) and access all areas of a construction site (stairs, ladders, uneven terrain)
• Ability to work extended hours and rotate between day/night shifts as project demands dictate
