Description
The Building Inspector is responsible for carrying out detailed inspections of buildings to assess their compliance with construction, safety and quality standards. This role is essential to guarantee the safety of occupants and the durability of structures, as well as to ensure compliance with municipal and provincial regulations.
Responsibilities
• Perform in-depth visual inspections of residential, commercial, institutional and/or industrial buildings to assess their general condition, safety and compliance with construction standards.
• Examine structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and other systems to identify defects, damage and potential problems.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports, describing observations, deficiencies and recommendations to remedy identified problems.
• Document inspection findings with photographs, diagrams, and other visual supports as necessary.
• Provide advice to owners, buyers and sellers of real estate on repairs and improvements necessary to maintain or improve the quality and value of buildings.
• Recommend corrective actions to address issues identified during inspections.
• Collaborate with owners, property managers, contractors and regulatory authorities to resolve issues identified during inspections.
• Effectively communicate inspection results to affected parties and respond to their questions and concerns.
Requirements
• Degree in building inspection, architectural technology or a related field, an asset.
• Building inspector certification, an asset.
• Experience in building inspection, preferably in the construction or real estate field, an asset.
• In-depth knowledge of building codes, municipal regulations and construction standards.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, with attention to detail and organizational skills.
