Description
The Building Structure Designer is responsible for producing technical drawings and detailed plans for building structures as part of construction projects. This role is essential to ensuring accuracy and compliance of structural designs, working closely with engineers, architects and other members of the project team.
Responsibilities
• Review project specifications and client requirements to understand building structure needs.
• Use computer-aided design (CAD) software to create technical drawings and detailed plans of building structures, including foundations, beams, columns, roof trusses, main trusses, floors, and reinforcing elements.
• Carry out the analysis of the loads and structural elements of the structure.
• Ensure that the structures support the correct loads, see to embedding non-visible structural elements, mount the assembled elements, etc.
• Work closely with structural engineers, architects and other project team members to integrate structural drawings into the overall building design.
• Ensure that drawings and plans comply with building codes, industry standards and regulatory requirements in force.
• Make revisions and changes to drawings in response to feedback from engineers, architects or clients, ensuring changes are properly documented and implemented.
• Prepare and organize technical documentation, including plans, drawings, specifications and lists of materials required for construction.
• Provide technical support during the construction phase by answering contractors' questions and clarifying details of structural drawings.
• Carry out regular quality checks to ensure the accuracy and consistency of the drawings produced.
Requirements
• Degree in building design, architecture, or the equivalent.
• Experience as a building structural designer, an asset.
• Good knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Mitek Sapphire, BIM, 3D Tekla, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or equivalent.
• In-depth knowledge of building codes, construction standards and structural design practices.
• Good knowledge of reading plans.
• Ability to interpret architectural plans and technical specifications.
• Attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, high quality drawings.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with different stakeholders.
• Ability to effectively manage priorities and meet deadlines.
• Organized, structured thinking, good ability to concentrate and adapt.
