Description

The Director of Civil Engineering and Infrastructure Operations plays a crucial role in managing and supervising all operational activities related to civil engineering and infrastructure construction projects within the company. This professional is responsible for the strategic planning, organization, coordination and overall management of operations to guarantee the success of projects, respecting deadlines, budgets and quality standards.

More specifically, he coordinates all the human and material resources required to successfully complete the projects, in collaboration with the superintendents, project managers and other key stakeholders in each project.

Responsibilities

    Develop and implement effective operational strategies to maximize profitability and performance of civil engineering and infrastructure projects, taking into account business objectives and specific client needs.
    Provide leadership and implement the OHS culture by promoting good practices on each project.
    Support and advise superintendents in the various stages of construction throughout the projects.
    Participate in the organization of supplies for the various construction sites and help establish equipment lists in collaboration with the logistics teams and the superintendent.
    Participate in the selection and establishment of appropriate working methods based on the work to be carried out.
    Coordinate equipment movements between different sites.
    Collaborate with project directors and project managers in monitoring costs.
    Participate in the different stages of pre-construction (methods, strategies, inventories, etc.) by providing expertise.
    Establish labor requirements at the start of the project and throughout the completion of the work.
    Coordinate labor movements between different sites.
    Identify future workforce needs (workforce planning) and find innovative solutions to meet them (recruitment pipeline).
    Maintain regular contact with key resources to maintain their engagement.
    Support the training of new superintendents, foremen as well as site personnel and act as a mentor to them.
    Identify current and future training needs and act as content expert, in collaboration with the team.
    Support superintendents in their relationships with clients, subcontractors, different specialties and other trades.
    Participate in the resolution of disputes in collaboration with superintendents and project directors.
    Ensure the maintenance of harmonious working relationships with the various stakeholders (unions, CNESST, RSS, etc.).
    Carry out regular visits to construction sites.

Requirements

    Relevant academic training.
    Significant experience in operations management in the construction industry, with prior experience in civil engineering and infrastructure project management.
    Recognized knowledge and skills in construction project management.
    Strong negotiation and communication skills.
    Strong spirit of collaboration, oriented towards results and innovative solutions.
    Master reading plans and specifications.
    Ability to manage several files simultaneously and good ability to manage tight deadlines.
    Leadership and ability to mobilize and develop teams.
