Description

The Estimator (roofing and tinsmithing) works within a company specializing in roofing and tinsmithing, for residential, commercial, institutional and/or industrial projects. Its primary role is to assess costs and prepare accurate estimates for roofing and tinsmithing projects, taking into account materials, labor and other relevant factors.

Responsibilities

  •  Analyze plans, specifications and other project documents to understand customer requirements and needs.
  •  Carry out on-site surveys to assess the extent of the work and take into account the specific conditions of the site.
  •  Estimate costs for materials, labor, equipment and subcontractors needed for each roofing and tinsmithing project.
  •  Use estimating software and databases to prepare detailed and accurate quotes, meeting established deadlines.
  •  Collaborate with sales, production and project management teams to obtain relevant information and ensure consistency of estimates.
  •  Submit the quote to the client and follow up on the response.
  •  Proceed with bond requests when required and follow up on them.
  •  Find subcontractors, if necessary.
  •  Identify and assess potential project risks and propose mitigation measures to minimize cost impacts.
  •  Carry out and process calls for tenders.
  •  Participate in bid preparation meetings and present estimates to potential clients in a clear and professional manner.
  •  Follow up on submissions and respond to client requests for clarification or revision.
  •  Find solutions with professionals and subcontractors to optimize construction costs and techniques.
  •  Maintain positive relationships with suppliers, subcontractors and other business partners to obtain competitive pricing and favorable terms.
  •  Perform post-project analyzes to evaluate accuracy of estimates and identify improvement opportunities for future projects.

Requirements

  •  Degree in estimation and evaluation in construction, architecture or building engineering or in a related field.
  •  Good knowledge of quotes and calls for tenders.
  •  Relevant professional experience in the field of roofing and tinsmithing, with demonstrated experience in project estimation, an asset.
  •  Knowledge of materials, techniques and quality standards used in roofing and tinsmith work, an asset.
  •  Good knowledge of estimation software, as well as common computer tools such as Microsoft Excel.
  •  Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret technical plans and specifications.
  •  Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to present information in a clear and concise manner.
  •  Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously, while meeting deadlines and client requirements.
  •  Attention to detail and rigor in costing, with a commitment to accuracy and precision.
  •  Valid driver's license and availability to travel to job sites according to business needs.
  •  Commitment to operational excellence, customer satisfaction and compliance with quality and safety standards.
