Description
The Fire Protection Mechanic Apprentice plays an essential role within a construction company. In collaboration with the team and a Journeyman Fire Protection Mechanic, he installs, repairs, modifies, repairs and maintains automatic sprinkler systems, including piping and other equipment used to prevent and fight fires.
The Fire Protection Mechanic Apprentice applies processes for preparing, assembling, installing and connecting piping and accessories, as well as activating, verifying and inspecting systems.
Responsibilities
• Install automatic sprinkler systems according to project plans and specifications.
• Carry out renovation, modification and repair work on existing systems as needed.
• Assemble and connect piping, valves, alarms and other components of the fire protection system.
• Activate, test and inspect systems to ensure proper operation and compliance with safety standards.
• Perform maintenance, calibration, repair, modification and installation of automatic fire sprinkler systems, such as wet, foam, gas systems and fire pump equipment.
• Carry out inspections at customer sites and ensure the proper functioning of protective equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve technical problems encountered during the installation or maintenance of systems.
• Follow fire safety regulations and standards when carrying out work.
• Maintain an inventory of parts and equipment needed to maintain systems.
• Document work performed, including inspection reports and certificates of conformity.
Requirements
• Training in fire protection, plumbing or building mechanics or equivalent experience, an asset.
• Certification card for mechanic in fire protection OR equivalent training, an asset.
• Experience with water, foam, gas and fire pump extinguishing systems, an asset
• Ability to interpret technical plans and specifications, an asset.
• Knowledge of fire protection standards and regulations (NFPA, Fire Safety Regulations, etc.), an asset.
• Ability to effectively use tools and equipment required to install and maintain fire protection systems, an asset.
• Strong problem solving and fault diagnosis skills.
• Ability to work in a team, communicate clearly and maintain positive relationships with customers.
• Autonomous, but able to function effectively within a team
• Organized and thorough with attention to detail
• Valid driving license.
