Description
The role of an Insulator involves installing, repairing, and maintaining thermal insulation on a variety of residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. Insulators play a crucial role in ensuring energy efficiency in buildings by reducing heat loss and maintaining optimal temperatures inside facilities.
Responsibilities
• Install, repair or renovate thermal insulation systems, in order to maintain the temperature of a liquid or gas.
• Insulate piping systems, air lines or tanks, and apply protective finishes.
• Install rigid or semi-rigid insulation.
• Prepare the worksite by gathering and preparing materials and tools required for thermal insulation.
• Ensure site safety by installing personal protective equipment and adhering to safety standards.
• Install various types of thermal insulators such as mineral wool, foam plastic, and polyurethane according to project specifications.
• Utilize appropriate techniques to wrap pipes, tanks, and equipment to reduce heat loss.
• Repair or replace damaged or faulty thermal insulation to restore the energy efficiency of installations.
• Perform regular maintenance on insulation to ensure its durability and long-term effectiveness.
• Take accurate measurements of surfaces to be insulated and calculate quantities of materials required for each project.
• Estimate costs and prepare quotes for insulation works.
• Collaborate with other trades on the site, including plumbers, electricians, and HVAC installers, to integrate thermal insulation into construction systems.
• Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure optimal coordination of works.
Requirements
• Diploma or studies in insulation or a related field, an asset.
• Experience as an insulator, preferably in the construction industry, an asset.
• Knowledge of thermal insulation materials and installation techniques.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and problem-solving skills.
