Description

The Specialized Labourer works on various construction sites—depending on their specialization (building, roadworks, earthworks, underground utilities)—to perform technical tasks beyond those of a general labourer. Depending on the project, they support masons, carpenters, pipelayers, and heavy equipment operators. This role requires versatility, initiative, and a solid understanding of safety best practices.

Responsibilities

  •  Prepare and secure work areas: set up barricades, signage, and protective equipment.
  •  Supply and distribute materials, tools, and consumables to the various trades on site.
  •  Perform light earthworks: digging, backfilling, grading, and manual compaction.
  •  Assist with pipe installation and connection (sewer, potable water, drainage) under the pipelayer’s supervision.
  •  Support masons and carpenters by handling blocks, formwork, rebar, brick pallets, and installing prefab elements.
  •  Assist excavator, compactor, or crane operators: guide movements, enforce safety protocols, and stabilize loads.
  •  Carry out specialized tasks as required by the site: grout injection, anchor installation, manual drilling of access pits.
  •  Participate in daily equipment maintenance: cleaning, lubrication, visual inspections, and reporting defects.
  •  Keep the site clean and organized: remove waste, sort recyclables, and securely store tools.
  •  Adhere to and enforce health and safety rules: use of PPE, safe lifting procedures, fall prevention, and equipment risk management.

Requirements

  •  On‑site experience in construction, civil engineering, or excavation.
  •  Familiarity with hand tools (pickaxe, shovel, hammer) and small site machinery (mini‑excavator, walk‑behind compactor).
  •  Ability to read simple plans and follow technical instructions.
  •  Good physical condition to perform manual, outdoor work, sometimes in confined spaces.
  •  Rigorous application of safety standards and ability to identify hazards.
  •  Strong organizational skills, autonomy, and team‑oriented mindset.
  •  Valid driver’s license and mobility to travel between sites.
