Description
The Engineer - Energy Efficiency plays a key role in the design, implementation and optimization of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) systems and energy processes. This professional is responsible for identifying and implementing innovative solutions aimed at reducing energy consumption and improving the efficiency of systems in industrial, commercial and institutional buildings.
Responsibilities
• Perform energy audits to evaluate the performance of HVAC systems and industrial processes.
• Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency and make recommendations.
• Design and optimize HVAC systems and energy processes to maximize their efficiency and energy performance.
• Develop projects by constantly questioning your technical concepts in order to meet, or even exceed, energy performance standards.
• Integrate innovative technologies and practices to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
• Manage energy efficiency projects end-to-end, from planning to implementation.
• Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure project objectives are achieved on time and on budget.
• Analyze energy performance data to assess the impact of energy efficiency initiatives and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Develop operational efficiency measures that meet customer needs and respect established financial parameters.
• Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with energy efficiency regulations and standards, including LEED certifications and government incentives.
• Manage energy and financial data, design, construction, change orders and ensure project objectives are achieved throughout its life cycle.
• Manage project documentation, as well as the procurement process with suppliers and subcontractors (calls for tenders, bid evaluation, contract negotiation and management).
• Plan budgets and closely monitor expenses.
• Manage customer expectations and maintain good relationships with them.
• Organize meetings with customers and subcontractors to resolve any unforeseen circumstances, validate that the implementation is proceeding as desired and that the energy savings and cost reduction objectives are achieved.
Requirements
• University degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or a related field.
• Experience in the design and management of HVAC systems and energy processes, preferably in the construction industry.
• Good understanding of typical thermodynamic systems (steam production and use, refrigeration, heat exchangers, ventilation principles, etc.).
• In-depth knowledge of energy efficiency principles and related technologies.
• Proficiency in energy modeling software, such as EnergyPlus, eQuest or TRACE.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and work independently.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Written and spoken communication skills (writing reports, presenting proposals, discussions with project stakeholders)
